Citizen science for the future of Europe
We need more citizen science to address current global challenges, and citizen science needs dedicated funding to succeed. Join us in advocating for more impactful and excellent citizen science in the upcoming European Framework Programme.In the past two decades, citizen science has grown significantly due to technological advancements, social factors, and strong support from European institutions and national governments. However, several challenges remain to be addressed to meet the raised expectations for citizen science.
This position paper outlines the importance of citizen science in enhancing scientific research, societal engagement, and policy-making. It also provides recommendations related with citizen science and the upcoming Framework Programme (FP10) for a more robust, inclusive, and democratic European society.

This position paper has been prepared by the ECSA Working Group on Policy, Strategies and Partnerships & the European Citizen Science project.
It has been initially endorsed by both institutions and individuals and we extend an open invitation to all who share our vision for the future of citizen science to join us in endorsing this initiative.
We specifically welcome CSOs, citizen science managers, science funders, governmental agencies, and stakeholders aiming to increase the support of citizen science as we shape the new European Framework Designing.

European Citizen Science
The ECS project has the overall objective to widen and strengthen the citizen science community in Europe through capacity building and awareness raising activities. This paper is part of its advocacy for citizen science and work on policy impacts.
